This pressured me to look into Dystonia and learn more about the subject considering it is still a real disease. I wanted to know what it is and what happened chemically in the brain to cause these symptoms. As you can see, Dystonia obviously affects the muscles, but why?

Side Note: Before I continue, I will explain some of the functions of various portions of the brain that I will be discussing, so you can fully understand this in context.

1. The cerebellum is involved in voluntary muscle movements, along with balance and equilibrium. Damage to this portion of the brain can lead to but is not limited to : the loss of coordination of motor movement,  movement tremors, staggering, wide based walking, tendency toward falling, weak muscles,and slurred speech. (There is more, however; they do not pertain to this case).

2. The thalamus relays information from many brain regions to the cerebral cortex. Nearly all axons synapse on the thalamus, it’s kind of like a “last stop” before relaying to the cortex.

3. The cerebral cortex is responsible for thought, perception and memory, and also controls advanced motor function, social abilities, language, and problem solving.

If the vaccine can cause this, it would chemically alter brain, particularly one of two pathways controlling muscle contractions. One pathway, that connects the cerebellum  and the thalamus is abnormal in all people who have this mutated gene. The second pathway connects the thalamus and the cortex. This is abnormal in people who have the mutated gene but no symptoms, however; the pathway is normal in people who actually express symptoms. The vaccine could or could not alter the pathways connecting the cerebellum and the thalamus. So in this case, the information produced in the cerebellum is not getting to the cerebral cortex, which would explain the person’s inability to walk or speak normally. This disorder prohibits the brain from distinguishing when muscles should be relaxed. Therefore, while walking, there is a constant conflict between muscles being used and involuntary spasms of muscles that are supposed to be relaxed.

All in all, this disease SUCKS.

Alright, let’s break this down. A little bit about me: My name is Danielle, most call me Dani. I have many other nicknames that, if you know me, are commonly used, and if you don’t know me, you must earn the right to learn said nicknames. I am 19 years old and I have fairly large goals for myself. I would consider myself to be very studious, most of the time. I am a Psychology major at Towson University and I aspire to be a Psychiatrist for the FBI/CIA or for people who suffer from personality disorders. I find the brain absolutely fascinating. I am a huge nerd when in comes to anything medical about the body. I analyze people like it’s my job, and I’m good at it, which is convenient since it will be one day. I have a habit of looking at things through other people’s point of view, and putting myself in their situations. I am Italian American, my mother was born in Sicily, which makes me and my two siblings first generation American. I have an absolutely huge, loud, obnoxious, European family and I love them to death.

Although I am a very friendly person, I am only close with a select few. I have one best friend that is a girl, all the rest are guy friends. This is because I despise bitchy, catty, conniving drama, and want no part of it in my life. After attending an all girl catholic high school, I witnessed this everyday, and knew I would never be that low. My other best friend is also the love of my life. He is my soul mate in every way and I would be nothing without him. His name is Jesse, and he is my world. However, there is a down side to this “oh so true love.” He lives in New Jersey and goes to college in Pennsylvania. I live in Baltimore, MD and go to Towson University, which I previously mentioned. I always told myself that long distance relationships just don’t work, but with him, anything was worth a try. Our freshman year I went to York College of PA. along with him. He lived in my building and wound up being my Biology lab partner (talk about a nerd couple!). I transferred after the first semester. It has been one year for us so far, a rough one at that. We have made so many plans and a future together, and we don’t plan on quitting. Even though living two separate lives is completely draining, while fueling jealousy and arguments, we are holding strong, because by the end of the night, we are still madly in love.

While most of the arguments Jesse and I have are probably my fault, I will admit that I am far from perfect. However, I believe that imperfection is the epitome of perfection. I use my imperfection to better myself. I strive to be a better athlete, to be in better shape, to get better grades, to please my parents and my boyfriend, to be proper and professional, to hold a good reputation. All of these experiences in life make us better and stronger than the day before. I work hard to achieve my goals because I have faith that one day it will pay off. I can only hope for the same for you.
